Precision Farming - Improved Features: Soil Map Purchase and More

15 Mars 2022

On April 19th, Farming Simulator 22 receives a variety of precision farming technologies with the new Precision Farming Free DLC - co-funded by the EU and initiated by EIT Food and John Deere. Read our announcement of the release date and features!

Some features will sound familiar to you - such as soil types, soil sampling, variable rate fertilization and economic analysis. They were already available in the initial version for Farming Simulator 19, and we have improved some of them to optimize the experience.

Saving Time and Resources with Improved Features

For the new version of the Precision Farming Free DLC, we added the possibility to purchase soil maps. Instead of taking samples of the soil to improve your yield yourself, you can buy a map containing all the necessary information, such as the soil type, pH levels and content of nitrogen, from a service provider. This will save you a lot of time.

Also, the usage of fertilizer becomes more efficient: The application rate will be calculated based on the current vehicle speed, so you always apply the correct amount per hectare, no matter how fast you go. We also added pre-selection in the auto-mode when applying fertilizer. Allowing you to select the plant upfront.

Stay Tuned for Details on New Features!

In addition to the improved features, the new version of Farming Simulator 22 will include crop sensors, an environmental score system, as well as variable rate seeding/drilling and variable rate weed control. Stay tuned for more information in the upcoming weeks!

More Info About The Project

The new free DLC is the continuation of the project initiated in 2020 by John Deere and the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). The project is designed to create awareness on the modern changes in agriculture. If you want to know more about the EIT or need a refresher course on precision farming, find out more below!

EIT is an independent institution of the EU with the goal to build a better, sustainable and future-proof food system for Europe. Implementing Precision Farming in the global video game phenomenon Farming Simulator is one of EITs multiple steps to increase awareness. EIT Food is supported by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), a body of the European Union.

Various other partners from the European Union are part of the project: The University of Hohenheim (Germany), the University of Reading (UK), Grupo AN (the largest cereal cooperative in Spain) and the Institute of Animal Reproduction and Food Research of Polish Academy of Sciences cooperate to promote the technology.
